PUC Students Bring Worship to Sabbath Afternoons

Sabbath afternoons have taken on a whole new meaning at PUC. Instead of taking a nap after Sabbath lunch, students are worshiping God. One night, near the end of winter quarter, students Tim Cress, David Moore, and Jason Decena tossed around the idea of having a 2 o’clock church service. A week later, they made it happen. “The 2 o’clock service was formed from the desire to have a family atmosphere where we can seek God,” said Tim Cress, a senior theology major who was very instrumental in starting the service. The first 2 o’clock program was held on Dec. 8 in Dauphinee chapel. “The first service was mainly just an experiment,” said Jason Decena, senior theology major and service coordinator. “We just decided to let God lead.” Since the first service, the congregation size has grown from about 40 people to a consistent 150 to 200 people. “I really enjoy the informal quality of the 2 o’clock service.” said Debbie Gorbencko, senior Public Relations Major. “I feel like the service is on my level and is is doing a good job in relating to the struggles that young adults have.” “We wanted to create a service that was not...

Michelle Tumes Performs at PUC

Michelle Tumes, a well-known Christian recording artist, performed for a full house at Pacific Union College on Saturday, March 16. Michelle’s music is a tender brand of song writing that has captivated listeners for several years. She has produced three CDs; 1998 Listen, 2000 Center of My Universe, and 2001 Dream; from these CDs, five songs have reached #1 on the adult contemporary charts.
A talented song writer, Michelle has written or co-written every original song on all of her albums. She has also penned songs for Jaci Velasquez, Sixpence None the Richer, and Point of Grace. Michelle has toured with such artists as Jaci Velasquez and Fernando Ortega. She will tour this fall with Twila Paris on the “Twila Paris and Friends Tour.”...

Fall Festival at Pacific Union College Celebrates America

Unfurl the red, white, and blue; enjoy apple pie and popcorn; and come experience the good ol’ USA in all its diversity. America is the theme for this year’s annual Fall Festival at Pacific Union College. The event will be held on Sunday, November 11, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Pacific Auditorium.
Representing the wealth of cultures that make up America, student clubs—including the Korean Student Association, the Hawaiian Club, the Asian Students’ Association, the Chinese Club, and multiple others—will sponsor booths at the Fall Festival. A variety of academic departments as well as the local academy and elementary school, will be represented at the festival as well. Proceeds from the sale of foods and from entertainment will go to support the participating clubs and academic departments. Featuring a wealth of different foods, cultural dances, and a short play by the dramatic arts society, the Fall Festival embodies the spirit of optimism and diversity that make America unique....
