Duties

The Network Infrastructure & Client Technician designs, installs, and maintains campus low-volt infrastructure. They also assist end users with technical problems relating to networking and computer systems. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Design and Installation:
    • Design and install commercial network and low voltage infrastructure wiring, in compliance with building and fire codes.
    • Run, pull, splice, and terminate copper and fiber optic cables (such as CAT6, fiber optics, and analog phone lines).
    • Mount telecom equipment while adhering to best practices, industry standards, and manufacturer requirements.
  2. Network Infrastructure Maintenance:
    • Assist in arranging routers, patch panels, switches, and other network devices.
    • Install support structures (racks, cable tray, J-hooks, etc.)
    • Maintain backup power units in network closets.
  3. Testing and Troubleshooting:
    • Inspect LAN infrastructure and troubleshoot minor or major problems.
    • Test and maintain hardware and peripheral devices.
  4. Client Support:
    • Maintain good relations with clients by actively listening to and resolving their issues or escalating them when necessary.
    • Oversee and instruct student workers during wiring projects that require multiple laborers.
    • Other duties as assigned

Desirable Qualifications

  • Ability to work in confined spaces, climb ladders, use power tools, and lift 10 kilogram (22 lb) objects
  • Communication and troubleshooting abilities
  • Aptitude for learning and working both independently and in a team
  • Capable of diagnosing hardware and software issues on computers and mobile devices
  • Skilled in math, geometry, and physics as they apply to installation (e.g. electrical calculations, cable length measurements, and material tolerances)
  • California driver’s license
  • An advocate for the role and value of Seventh-day Adventist higher education
  • Must have an expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and a SDA church member in good and regular standing.

Compensation

Hourly; (plus denominational benefits, depending upon qualifications and experience)
