Duties

Provides leadership, planning, direction, and counsel to Administration regarding Human Resource functions and operations. Develops policy and directs and coordinates Human Resource activities, including recruiting, orientation, employment, compensation, benefits, training, and employee services by performing the following duties personally or with the assistance of HR personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyzes wage reports and data to determine a competitive denominational compensation plan including benefit package enhancements.
  • Develops/maintains policies regarding employment practices, compensation, and employee benefits.
  • Ensure compliance with denominational, federal and state regulations and policies.
  • Engage with PUC’s ERP, Colleague, to effectively administer the various capabilities of the program to leverage institutional efficiencies across all HR and payroll applications. This includes a working knowledge of how every aspect of the system functions to be able to provide guidance and assistance, when necessary, with day-to-day operations.
  • Oversees the analysis, maintenance, and communication of employment records required by federal or local governing bodies or other departments in the organization including various audit requirements and reporting guidelines.
  • Studies legislation and arbitration decisions to assess industry trends.
  • Facilitates the employee recruiting, hiring, evaluation and termination process.
  • Be a good steward of College resources, both personnel and financial.
  • Work with Administration to implement employee training and development opportunities.
  • Maintain faculty, staff and student handbooks.
  • Administer and be responsible for the HR department budget as well as the wages and benefit budget for the entire institution.
  • Establish, implement and monitor human resource policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate commitment to hiring Adventist employees who adhere to the tenants of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
  • Serves as Human Resources Director for Howell Mountain Enterprises, a wholly owned for-profit subsidiary of PUC.
  • Participates in various College governance committees, as directed.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages Human Resources department.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in related field with preference given to a master’s degree and at least 5 years of experience in the field.

  • Leadership style that is collegial and accessible on campus and in the community.
  • Demonstrated leadership in team-building, strategic planning, goal setting and financial management.
  • The ability to collaborate openly and effectively with faculty, staff, and students, by exhibiting behaviors of that have integrity.
  • An ability to develop and communicate the vision of the College to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and understanding of evaluation techniques and methods; skill in supervisory practices and techniques.
  • Knowledge of mediation and/or conflict resolution strategies and methods; skill in mediating disputes between various parties.
  • An advocate for the role and value of Seventh-day Adventist higher education.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with all segments of the College; ability to develop collaboration among diverse groups; ability to think “outside of the box” and to lead and manage change.
  • Respectful of diverse opinions and inter-culturally competent.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and advanced formulas necessary to analyze data.
  • Must have an expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and a SDA church member in good and regular standing.
 

Compensation

Salary; $78k to $86k (plus denominational benefits, depending upon qualifications and experience)
