Community Speaker Series

The Community Speaker Series (GNRL – 100 Community Speaker Series) is designed to be when the entire campus community comes together. We gather to learn, celebrate, worship, and exchange new ideas. While the Series meets in the PUC Church, it is not a “church” nor simply a worship service. Instead, it is PUC living and learning together as a gathered community. Sometimes we sing together, pray together, laugh, and weep. We think together about anything that concerns us: faith, service, diversity, the natural world, art—even politics. As with everything we do, everywhere we do it, we are in God’s presence.

How do I receive academic credit for Community?

All students registered for seven or more credits are automatically registered for the course GNRL 100, worth 0.2 units each quarter. Attending at least EIGHT of the TEN programs this quarter earns a Satisfactory (S) grade, and graduating seniors must attend SIX of the TEN programs each quarter; failure to meet this attendance requirement results in an Unsatisfactory (U) grade. Student Works can record your attendance by using your ID number or swipe your ID card as you enter and exit. If you need to place your ID, you may use your ID number to register your attendance.

The Community Speaker Series Civility Clause

To be "civil" means to refrain from rudeness. To this end, please come on time; put away cell phones, textbooks, laptops, or whatever might distract you or others from the program at hand. Carrying on extended conversations during the program is distracting to others and disrespectful to the speaker. Please choose to be civil, not rude, during our time together at the Community Speaker Series programs.
